"I started KEY Marine Advisors because I kept seeing the same problems — owners losing time, money, and confidence to projects that lacked independent oversight. After 30 years of running shipyard operations and leading complex marine projects, I know what disciplined execution looks like. And I know exactly what it costs when it's missing."

Ken Youngchild has spent more than three decades inside the shipyard — starting as a yacht captain and advancing to executive project leadership across more than 1,400 vessel builds, refits, and technically demanding repair programs. From routine drydockings to major custom yacht construction, few independent advisors bring that depth of firsthand yard experience to owner representation.

He works directly with naval architects, engineers, U.S. Coast Guard personnel, class inspectors, and shipyard teams — coordinating the technical, financial, and regulatory layers that determine whether a project finishes on time, on budget, and to standards. His clients get clear reporting, independent oversight, and someone who has seen every way a project can go sideways.

When you hire KEY Marine Advisors, you're not adding a consultant to your project. You're adding the most experienced person in the room.

Our Differentiators

Why Clients Work with Us

Five things set KEY Marine Advisors apart from every other option on the table.

01

Owner-First Representation

We represent the owner's interests and only the owner's interests. Every recommendation, review, and decision is approached with independence, discretion, and a commitment to protecting the client's position.

02

Technical and Operational Experience

Marine projects demand more than just coordination; they require a thorough understanding of shipyard operations, marine systems, sequencing, skilled trades, regulatory standards, and execution risks.

03

Clear Communication

We help bridge the gap between owners, captains, managers, designers, builders, and shipyards through direct communication, structured reporting, and decisive follow-through.

04

Structured Project Control

Successful outcomes depend on managing scope, schedule, budget, documentation, quality, and risk — consistently and without gaps. We bring structure to the process to surface issues early, maintain momentum, and protect project velocity.

05

Protection of Value

A yacht is both a major asset and a personal investment. Our role is to help protect that value by reducing avoidable surprises, improving accountability, and supporting better data-driven decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
