How We Work

Every Engagement is different. The way we structure our work is not.

OVERVIEW

Three commerical vessel under project management directed by Ken Youngchild at KEY Marine Advisors

Whether you are preparing for a refit, managing a repair in progress, or planning a new build, KEY Marine Advisors brings the same structured, disciplined approach to every project. What changes is the scope and intensity of involvement. What stays the same is the process, the reporting, and the commitment to protecting the owner's interests at every stage.

This page explains what working with us actually looks like — from the first conversation to final handover.

The Five Phases of a KEY Marine Advisors Engagement

    Discovery & Scoping

    WHAT WE DO

We begin with a short conversation, typically 20 to 30 minutes, to understand your vessel, the project, your timeline, and where your main concerns lie. No obligation, no sales pressure. Just an honest discussion about whether and how we can help.

    WHAT YOU GET

Clarity on whether the engagement makes sense, and what level of involvement fits the project.

    Engagement Structuring

    WHAT WE DO

If it makes sense to proceed, we define the scope of involvement, agree on reporting cadence, establish communication preferences, and confirm the commercial terms. The engagement is shaped around the project's actual needs.

    WHAT YOU GET

A clear mandate, agreed deliverables, and a shared understanding of how the work will be managed.

  • KEY Marine Advisors Phase 3 image for the project engagement sequence in How We Work

    Initiation & Planning

    WHAT WE DO

We review existing plans, schedules, contracts, and specifications. We identify gaps, clarify responsibilities, align stakeholders, and establish the baseline for tracking scope, schedule, and budget throughout execution.

    WHAT YOU GET

A structured, credible project baseline that gives all parties a shared initial reference point.

  • KEY Marine Advisors Phase 4 image for the project engagement sequence in How We Work

    Execution & Oversight

    WHAT WE DO

We provide owner-side oversight throughout the active project period, whether full-time on-site, periodic attendance, or remote monitoring. We track progress, manage changes, escalate issues, and keep the owner clearly informed.

    WHAT YOU GET

Real-time visibility, fewer surprises, and confident decision-making throughout the yard period.

  • KEY Marine Advisors Phase 5 image for the project engagement sequence in How We Work

    Closeout & Handover

    WHAT WE DO

We manage the final phase: inspections, sea trials, deficiency resolution, documentation, compliance certificates, and turnover packages. The project is not complete until the owner has everything needed for a clean handover.

    WHAT YOU GET

A complete, orderly delivery with no loose ends and full documentation in place.

We Match the Engagement to the Project

Not every project requires the same level of involvement. We scope each engagement around what the project actually needs.

Full-Time On-Site Project Leadership

Continuous owner-side presence throughout the yard period. Best suited to complex refits, new builds, or any project where the scope, risk, or commercial stakes warrant daily oversight and real-time decision support.

Periodic Oversight & Milestone Reporting

Structured visits at key milestones combined with remote monitoring and regular reporting. Best suited to projects where full-time attendance is not required but the owner needs objective status visibility and independent verification.

Targeted Advisory & Project Review

Focused support for a specific phase, work package, or area of concern. Best suited to projects already underway where the owner needs a qualified second opinion, a structured review, or help regaining control of a drifting situation.

The Easiest First Step Is a Conversation

Tell us about your project — where it stands, what concerns you most, and what you are trying to achieve. We will be direct about whether we can help, what that would look like, and what it would take to get started.

All discussions are handled with complete discretion.
